Why a Standard?

The current situation where a hodgepodge of disjointed efforts introduce as many technologies as there are well-intended efforts has resulted in an inability to develop a shared, community-level technical or pedagogical knowledge base around any one technology. Standards offer

shared technical resources: one school can share a technical solution to a problem with every another school
shared pedagogical resource: one school's clever use of a software package can be shared and used by every other school
baseline utilities: all schools, regardless of technical ability begins the journey of technology integration at the same baseline, meaning that they have access to the same base software and resources from which to build. An experienced pedagogical technologist is not a pre-requisite to getting started.
